Jeff Gordon finished sixth in the Ford 400 at Homestead after battling handling issues after the sun went down. The driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet had a great season and finished third in the final championship standings, gordonline.com reports.

    Impact:
While Gordon's teammate Jimmie Johnson was claiming the trophy, Gordon will still a part of history on Sunday at HMS. Hendrick Motorsports became the first organization, thanks to Mark Martin and Gordon, to finish 1-2-3 in the final standings. Gordon had a great season, and should be a potential Top 5 driver again in 2010.

Jeff Gordon will drive through at least the 2013 season for Hendrick Motorsports, ESPN.com reports.

    Impact:
"He's committed to at least 2013, maybe 2014," team owner Rick Hendrick said. "I'm hoping he's going to drive a bunch of more years. We know it's going to be at least three or four." Gordon is no where near retiring despite his recent back problems and any concerns about him wanting to spend time with his family. Hendrick has full confidence that his legendary driver will hang around a few more years.

Jeff Gordon finished ninth in the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday.

    Impact:
It was a hard fought finish for veteran driver Gordon, but the effort paid off with his 24th Top-10 finish of the season. Despite the good day at PIR, Gordon is eliminated from championship contention since his teammate Jimmie Johnson won the event. Gordon sits third in the championship standings at 169 points back of Johnson heading to Homestead.

  • 10.25.09

Jeff Gordon finished fifth in the Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday.

    Impact:
It was another typical Martinsville performance by Gordon, although he would like to have finished better. Gordon was running in the Top 3 in the closing laps, but late restarts cost him to lose a couple of positions. He continues to hold a solid position in the Chase for the Cup. Gordon currently sits third overall at 150 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.

  • 10.18.09

Jeff Gordon finished fourth in the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

    Impact:
Gordon was one of the few championship contenders to keep pace with Jimmie Johnson on Saturday night. His No. 24 Chevy faded in the closing laps, but he was able to hold on for a solid Top-5 finish. Gordon now sits third in the championship standings at 135 points behind leader Johnson.

  • 10.11.09

Jeff Gordon finished second in the Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday.

    Impact:
For the second straight race Gordon and the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsport team collected a runner-up finish. Fontana has been a good track for the veteran driver over the years and Sunday was no exception. Gordon kept his slim championship hopes alive by moving into fifth-place overall at 105 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.

  • 10.04.09

Jeff Gordon finished second in the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.

    Impact:
It was another strong intermediate oval effort by the No. 24 team. Gordon stayed in the Top 10 for much of the race and gave Tony Stewart a good challenge for the win late. He held on for the brilliant runner-up finish and had a great day in the points. Gordon climbs to seventh-place overall, and now at 103 points behind leader Mark Martin has some slim championship hopes still alive.

  • 09.28.09

Jeff Gordon had a potential runner-up finish ruined at Dover on Sunday when an air gun broke during a pit stop with under 80 laps to go. Gordon slipped from second to sixth-place and struggled to regain those positions before finishing sixth in the AAA 400, gordonline.com reports.

    Impact:
The broken air gun was very costly for Gordon's championship hopes. Despite salvaging the Top-10 finish, Gordon only moved up two spots to eighth-place in the Chase standings. A runner-up finish at the Monster Mile would have put Gordon back in the thick of the championship picture.

  • 09.12.09

Jeff Gordon finished third in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night.

    Impact:
Gordon continued his great career record at RIR with another Top 5 in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. He led several laps and appeared to have a car capable of winning early in the race. Gordon fell back later in the event and held on for the brilliant Top 5. The effort earns him a sixth-place seeding the Chase for the Cup.

  • 09.08.09

Jeff Gordon battled handling problems on longer runs throughout the Pep Boys 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway en route to an eighth-place finish on Sunday night, gordonline.com reports.

    Impact:
It wasn't a spectacular performance, but it was good enough to lock up a spot in this season's Chase for the Cup. Gordon has been a consistent Top 10 team in recent weeks, but not a real threat to win any races. He currently sits second overall in the championship standings heading to Richmond this weekend.

  • 09.03.09

Finishing second in the next two Sprint Cup Series races means nothing to Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon. The four-time Cup champion is already locked in this year's Chase For The Sprint Cup, so he'll be going all out for victories in the next two events, scenedaily.com reports.

    Impact:
Wins in the final two events before the Chase would go a long way towards helping Gordon in his pursuit of another championship. He has one win this season and it came on a similar intermediate oval (Texas) to Atlanta. Gordon will be a great fantasy racing play in the Pep Boys Auto 500.
