    The owner/driver of the No. 14 Chevrolet had a bad day at the track in Phoenix. He became involved in a multi-car accident when Dale Earnhardt Jr. spun and lost control collecting many cars. Stewart fell off the lead lap and was relegated to the poor finish. He remains fifth in the series standings despite his disappointing day at PIR.

    Thanks to good pit strategy and a late, two-tire pit stop, Stewart took control at Kansas Speedway and held off a strong challenge from Jeff Gordon to capture the victory in the Price Chopper 400. It was his fourth victory of the season and first during the Chase for the Cup. Smoke suddenly gains new life in the championship chase. He now sits fourth overall at 67 points behind leader Mark Martin.
