  • 11.06.09

Kurt Busch and his No. 2 Penske Racing Team return to Texas Motor Speedway for Sunday's Dickies 500. The intermediate oval in Fort Worth has yielded eight Top-10 finishes in 13 career starts for the veteran driver, kurtbusch.com reports.

    Impact:
"We were hoping to be up there battling it out for the championship, but with only three races remaining this season and being at such a deficit, we're heading into Texas focused on trying to win races before the year is over," said Busch. The No. 2 team has been very consistent on the 1.5-mile ovals this season. Busch won earlier this year at Atlanta, so he could show up with a race-winning car on Sunday.

  • 10.25.09

Kurt Busch finished 16th in the Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday.

    Impact:
Well Martinsville has likely put an end to the No. 2 team's championship hopes. Busch's Dodge just never had a good handle and the veteran driver struggled to maintain the lead lap. The poor finish causes Busch to tumble to sixth-place in the Chase standings at 237 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.

  • 10.20.09

Kurt Busch told Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway that the search is narrowing for a 2010 crew chief for the Miller Lite Dodge.

    Impact:
"We've got a guy internally that we're extremely interested in," said Busch. "I'm also going to sit down with our team president, Tim Cindric, tomorrow to talk about some of the other people that he has spoken to about the job." Pat Tryson will be leaving the No. 2 team next season or possibly sooner if Busch falls out of championship contention. There appears to be a long list of candidates for the job, and it will be hard to replace the chemistry that Tryson and Busch had this season.

  • 10.12.09

Kurt Busch finished eighth in Sunday's Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway and is now sixth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings with six races remaining, kurtbusch.com reports.

    Impact:
It wasn't a great car for Busch at Fontana, but he managed to drive it to a Top-10 finish in the Pepsi 500. At 121 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson, his championship hopes are slim after this race. Still, Busch has plenty of motivation to race well and will make a good fantasy racing selection in the remaining races of this season.

The No. 2 Penske Racing team now sits fifth overall at 91 points behind leader Mark Martin. Busch will need to bring home a Top 5 at Fontana this weekend to keep his hopes of another Sprint Cup title alive.

  • 09.27.09

  • 09.24.09

Kurt Busch doesn't believe the new chassis he'll use in Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway is a risk. The 2004 Cup champion said the chassis has been ready since the Atlanta race on Labor Day weekend, ESPN Insider reports.

    Impact:
Busch has a spotty record at the Monster Mile, so the team is going to try a new car this weekend in the AAA 400. The No. 2 team has high confidence in this new car and Busch is hoping a Top-5 finish will result on Sunday at DIS.

  • 09.21.09

  • 09.12.09

    Impact:
It was another great short track outing for the Penske Racing No. 2 team. Busch ran in the Top 10 for much of the night at Richmond. Bob Dilner reported during SPEED's coverage of the Sprint Cup first practice at Richmond that Pat Tryson, current crew chief for Kurt Busch, will leave Penske Racing and head over to crew chief Martin Truex Jr. for Micheal Waltrip Racing next season.

    Impact:
This is an unfortunate development for Busch considering how well the No. 2 team has performed this season. There has been no word from Penske Racing yet on who will replace Tryson on top of the team's tool box.

  • 09.02.09

Kurt Busch enters this weekend's Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway sixth in the championship standings. He's 461 points behind leader Tony Stewart, but more importantly, he's 192 points ahead of the driver in 13th position, Kyle Busch, scenedaily.com reports.

    Impact:
"While we know we can lock up a spot in the Chase there in Atlanta on Sunday night with a good finish, we still have to be in the mode of doing what it takes to win and bank us some more bonus points to help with our seeding when the Chase kicks in," said Busch. "There are several guys out there with multiple wins, and we need to get ourselves up there with them during these next two races." Busch won the spring race at Atlanta this season, so chances are good for the No. 2 team to challenge for the win again this weekend.
