Reed Sorenson will make his final NASCAR Sprint Cup start for Richard Petty Motorsports in Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, scenedaily.com reports.

    Impact:
Sorenson's ride will be eliminated when RPM merges with Yates Racing next season. The young driver will become a free agent after the Homestead race, and due to the challenging economy will face a tough battle to land another Sprint Cup ride for next season.

Reed Sorenson finished third in the Able Body Labor 200 Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday.

    Impact:
It was just Sorenson's eighth start in the Nationwide Series this seaosn, but it was a memorable finish. He piloted the Braun Racing Toyota to his second Top-5 finish of the 2009 season at Phoenix. It was Sorenson's 22nd career Top 5 in 103 Nationwide Series starts.

Casey Mears and Reed Sorenson are among the four drivers No. 09 Phoenix Racing is considering for the 2010 Sprint Cup season, ESPN.com reports.

    Impact:
James Finch is gearing up to run full-time next season if the sponsorship comes through. Sorenson is in the running with David Stremme, David Gilliland and Mears for the seat. Sorenson might likely fall out of Sprint Cup competition in 2010 if he can't land this ride.

The last time Reed Sorenson and the RPM No. 43 team visited Talldega Superspeedway he posted the best finish of his seven career Talladega starts with a solid 11th-place finish in the Aaron's 499, reedsorensononline.com reports.

    Impact:
Sorenson knows that racing at Talladega is all about survival. In his last visit to the 2.66-mile oval, he cracked the Top 15 despite suffering a flat tire and falling one lap down during the event. This weekend's AMP Energy Drink 500 could hold another Top-15 finish for Sorenson and his RPM race team.

  • 10.15.09

Reed Sorenson endured his first DNF of the season last week at Fontana. He comes to Lowe's Motor Speedway this weekend for the NASCAR Banking 500 and hopefully a rebound performance, richardpettymotorsports.com reports.

    Impact:
This has been a tough season for the No. 43 Dodge team. Sorenson's DNF at Auto Club Speedway last weekend just added to the malaise. He normally runs very well at intermediate ovals, so Sorenson should rebound to the Top 25 at Charlotte on Sunday.

  • 09.26.09

ESPN reported during Nationwide Series qualifying on Saturday that Reed Sorenson is talking to Braun Racing about driving the No. 32 Toyota a majority of the races next season in the Nationwide Series.

    Impact:
With sponsorship growing more scarce in the Sprint Cup Series and good teams cutting budgets, this seems like the most likely scenario for Sorenson. When RPM recently announced that his team would not be back in 2010, it left Sorenson scrambling for a ride next season. It looks like a a hefty dose of Nationwide Series racing is in his future.

  • 09.11.09

Reed Sorenson, current driver of the No. 43 Dodge, was interviewed on Sirius Speedway Radio Show and said he knew a few weeks ago that he would not be back with Richard Petty Motorsports in 2010 and he is looking for a ride next season.

    Impact:
On Thursday Richard Petty Motorsports announced that they will be merging with Yates Racing and the team would consolidate into four cars and run Fords in lieu of Dodge. Since the press release didn't mention where Sorenson was going it became obvious that he's the odd-man-out in the merger. Sorenson will face a tough battle looking for a good ride in 2010, but he should land somewhere in the Sprint Cup Series.

Saturday night's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond will mark Reed Sorenson's 135th career Sprint Cup start. The driver of the No. 43 Dodge finished 12th in this race one year ago, reedsorensononline.com reports.

    Impact:
While Sorenson loves to race at Richmond, the team has under-achieved this season. The driver of the No. 43 Dodge has the ability to crack the Top 10 on Saturday night, but it's more likely that he will struggle to crack the Top 20 in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400.
