Impact:
For the second consecutive week the No. 31 RCR team collected the runner-up finish. Burton ran another steady and smart race and led several laps in the Ford 400. The veteran driver ends the 2009 season on a very high note with new crew chief Todd Berrier. This is a team to watch closely and to select high in next season's fantasy drafts.
Jeff Burton finished third in the Ford 300 Nationwide Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday.
Impact:
It was a strong run for the No. 29 RCR team. Burton stayed in the Top 5 for most of the race and led four times for 49 laps. Burton's Top 5 was his second of the season in 13 starts.
Jeff Burton was fastest in Happy Hour practice for the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday. He turned a fast lap of 165.736 mph.
Impact:
Burton and his Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick led the final practice for Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead. The No. 31 team has been on a roll the last few races, and Burton looks like a Top 5 threat for Sunday's season finale at the 1.5-mile oval.
Jeff Burton was fastest in opening practice for the Ford 300 Nationwide Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday. He turned a fast lap of 166.584 mph.
Impact:
Burton piloted the No. 29 RCR Chevrolet to the top of the speed charts on Friday at HMS. This has been a stellar team in 2009. Burton stands a good chance to capture the pole for Saturday's race and challenge for a Top-5 finish at Homestead.
Jeff Burton finished second in the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday.
Impact:
Burton looked like the driver of old at PIR on Sunday. The one-mile oval has been a place of success for the RCR veteran over the years. Burton run in the Top 10 for much of the race and he collected the fourth Top 5 of the season after 312 laps. The No. 31 team is on a three-race Top-10 streak and looking to carry that momentum into next season.
In his second week calling the shots for the CAT Racing team, crew chief Todd Berrier guided Jeff Burton and Company through hardship and misfortune to earn their second consecutive Top-10 finish in Sunday's Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, rcrracing.com reports.
Impact:
The crew chief shake up at RCR appears to be paying dividends for Burton and the No. 31 team. It wasn't pretty, but it was a hard-fought Top-10 finish for the veteran driver. Burton has good career stats at both Phoenix and Homestead, so he could prove to be a useful fantasy racing start over the final two weeks of the season.
Jeff Burton finished fifth in the AMP Energy Drink 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday.
Impact:
Burton worked with his Richard Childress Racing teammates in the closing laps, and he chose drafting partners well. Burton avoided the late wrecks and collected just his third Top 5 of the season in the AMP Energy Drink 500. This was a great finish for the veteran driver to build on for next season.
Sirius Speedway has learned that a press conference will be held early next week to announce personnel changes on Jeff Burton's No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team, including the signing of crewchief Todd Berrier.
Impact:
Burton has struggled tremendously this season. A crew chief change was the obvious course of action for Richard Childress Racing. Berrier is a proven, veteran crew chief. He will replace Scott Miller atop the team's war wagon and hopefully get Burton back into Chase for the Cup form in 2010.
Jeff Burton will reach another career milestone when he makes his 850th career NASCAR start in Friday night's NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, rcrracing.com reports.
Impact:
The milestone will tie Burton with Bill Elliott for 11th on the all-time NASCAR starts list. The No. 29 Chevrolet team has been very strong this season, so Burton could come away with a win in his 850th start.
Jeff Burton will race chassis No. 255 from the Richard Childress Racing stable this weekend at Fontana. The veteran driver piloted this machine to an 11th-place effort at Michigan last August, rcrracing.com reports.
Impact:
Burton has done nothing to be on anyone's fantasy racing watch list this weekend. However, we believe the RCR veteran driver could be a good sleeper pick for the Pepsi 500. He's bringing the same car to Auto Club Speedway that nearly cracked the Top 10 at the similar oval in Brooklyn, Michigan a few weeks ago. Burton's career Fontana stats are good enough to back this endorsement.
In 29 Sprint Cup Series starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Jeff Burton boasts four wins, eight Top-5, 13 Top-10 finishes and has led for a total of 694 laps. He comes to Loudon this weekend looking to shake off the slump that has plagued the No. 31 team most of the season, rcrracing.com reports.
Impact:
Burton stands a good chance of breaking his slump at Loudon this weekend. The small, flat oval in New Hampshire has always been a favorite of the Richard Childress Racing veteran. Burton is a risky fantasy racing play in the Sylvania 300, but he posseses the ability to crack the Top 15 on Sunday.
Jeff Burton will pilot chassis No. 255 from the Richard Childress Racing stable this weekend at Richmond. Built new for 2008, this is the same Chevy Impala SS Burton drove to a 21st-place finish at Pocono last August, rcrracing.com reports.
Impact:
The veteran Burton has shown no signs of pulling out of the slump that he's currently mired in. Despite being a one-time winner at Richmond, Burton is too unreliable right now for fantasy racing purposes. While the No. 31 team has the potential to challenge the Top 15 in this event, they're simply too risky to deploy at Richmond.
